Two awards for water excellence

Veolia Water Network Services (VWNS) has shared in two prestigious awards for outstanding work in the critical area of sustainable water supply and management.

At the recent 2011 ACE Awards for Australian Contracting Excellence, VWNS received the Excellence in Services/Operations and Maintenance Alliances Award.

VWNS followed up by winning the 2011 AWA Water Industry Safety Excellence Award from the Australian Water Association.

VWNS shared in both awards as a partner in the Networks Alliance, which also includes two other service providers to the Australian water industry.

2011 ACE Award

Networks Alliance received the Excellence in Services/Operations and Maintenance Alliances Award for its ongoing work on a major water mains renewal project for Sydney Water.

The criteria for the award - which covered a large scope of services, from pipe and flow meter renewal to reservoir refurbishment - included an incident and accident-free record, and having an excellent relationship with the community (no complaints).

Sydney Water currently spends around $85 million a year on improving the city's water system by replacing aged and damaged pipes and valves. This reduces the risk of pipe breaks across a 21,000-kilometre network of water mains while ensuring good quality drinking water.

As one of the Networks Alliance partners, VWNS perform a significant portion of reticulation water mains renewal, using pipe bursting technology in daily operations.

2011 AWA Award

In winning the Water Industry Safety Excellence Award from the Australian Water Association, Networks Alliance was judged the best organisation for health and safety in Australia.

This award acknowledges outstanding initiative and team contributions in considering and playing an active part in the area of safety, as well as improvement and injury prevention across the entire water industry.

The criteria for this award were: no incidents or accidents, and the use of innovation for electrical current detection in water pipes before work starts - further areas where VWNS excel.
